The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and 토토사이트 David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.

During the recording process for the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and create a new album with a new producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.

In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begins an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

It was the first time in more than 31 years that all of Toto's founding members performed together. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
